Welcome to Savannah, Georgia

Welcome to Savannah Georgia

It's history that has kept Savannah so alive throughout recent decades, especially the antebellum charm of the mid-19th century. The best-known feature of Savannah, however, is the Bonaventure Cemetery where the monument that graced the book “Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil” was once located. Today, the monument no longer stands in the cemetery, but is instead viewable in Savannah's Telfair Museum of Art. Known for its friendliness to visitors, the city's thriving tourism industry has also kept open a wide variety of restaurants, bars and night clubs.

Fort Pulaski Monument

Built to protect Savannah's port, Fort Pulaski became famous as a point of contention during the American Civil War. Both sides fought for control of the fort due to its important location, with the North reclaiming it in 1862. The fort also helped out in the Underground Railroad, serving as a last point of freedom for slaves.
