Description:
The quiet, shady Bonaventure Cemetery, founded in 1846, holds the gravesites, statues, and markers of many famous Georgians, including Capital Records co-founder Johnny Mercer and writer Conrad Aiken. It became a part of pop culture when the cemetery was featured in John Berendt's novel "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil", although the "Bird Girl" monument featured on the cover of the book has since been relocated to the Telfair Museum of Art in Savannah. The cemetery is located southeast of downtown Savannah, two miles north of Savannah State University.
